IN INDIA, 2.71 MILLION NEW COVID CASES HAVE BEEN REGISTERED, WITH POSITIVITY DECLINING LITTLE.

1. The total number of cases in the country today stands at 3.71 million. This includes 7,743 Omicron variant cases, which are currently found in 28 states.
2. Active cases currently account for 4.18 percent of all infections, while the COVID-19 recovery rate in the United States has dropped to 94.51 percent. According to data released this morning by the Health Ministry, the active COVID-19 caseload has increased by 1,32,557 cases in just 24 hours.
3. The daily positivity rate increased slightly from 16.66 to 16.28 percent, but the weekly positivity rate remained same at 13.69 percent. According to the ministry, the total number of doses provided in the country as part of the nationwide vaccination push has surpassed 156.76 crore.
4. Of the 314 new deaths, 106 are from Kerala and 39 are from West Bengal. Maharashtra has 1,41,779 deaths, Kerala has 50,674 deaths, Karnataka has 38,418 deaths, Tamil Nadu has 36,967 deaths, Delhi has 25,335 deaths, Uttar Pradesh has 22,953 deaths, and West Bengal has 20,052 deaths.
5. Maharashtra, one of the worst-affected states by the Covid epidemic, reported 42,462 new coronavirus infections, down 749 from the previous day, and 23 deaths. The total number of cases presently stands at 71,70,483, with 1,41,779 deaths. During the day, 125 new Omicron cases were discovered in the state, bringing the total number of such illnesses to 1,730.
6. People buying COVID-19 self-testing kits in Mumbai would be required to show their Aadhaar cards to pharmacies in order to keep track of their purchases, according to Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.
7. On Saturday, Delhi recorded 20,718 new Covid cases, down 15.5 percent from the day before. However, for the second day in a row, the national capital's positivity rate stayed at 30.64 percent. Covid now has a caseload of 93,407.
8. New coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu have surpassed 24,000 infections in a single day, with new cases in Chennai approaching 9,000. On Saturday, the state reported 23,989 new cases and 11 deaths. This brings the total number of cases documented to 29,15,948 so far, with 36,967 deaths.
9. In the northeast, Assam had a 44 percent increase in new cases, with 3,390 more persons testing positive for the virus, the largest single-day increase since June 19 last year. There are 17,777 active cases in the state, with a positivity rate of 9.87 percent.
10. Due to the fast-spreading Omicron form, which was originally identified in Botswana and South Africa, Covid cases have been on the rise since late last year. According to an AFP tally based on government numbers, the total number of Covid-19 cases documented worldwide since the start of the pandemic has surpassed 300 million.
