IN INDIA, THERE ARE 2.82 MILLION NEW COVID CASES, WITH POSITIVITY INCREASING FROM 14.43 PERCENT TO 15.13 PERCENT


New Delhi: Over 2.82 lakh new Covid cases have been recorded in India in the last 24 hours, up 18% over the previous day's total.

1. The positive rate, which is a measure of how far the virus has spread, has increased slightly from 14.43 percent to 15.13 percent.

2. There have been 8,961 cases of the fast-spreading Omicron type, which is driving the third wave of the pandemic, reported in the country thus far. Since yesterday, the Omicron count has increased by 0.79 percent.

3. In the last 24 hours, a total of 441 deaths have been reported as a result of the virus, up from 310 the day before.

4. According to the Health Ministry's bulletin, the country's active caseload is currently at 18.31 lakh.

5. In the last 24 hours, nearly 1.88 lakh patients have recovered from Covid, bringing the country's recovery rate to 93.88 percent.

6. To date, 70.74 billion samples have been tested. Over 18.69 lakh tests were performed in the last 24 hours, up from over 2 lakh the day before.

7. As the government pushes hard to extend coverage amid the third wave of infections, over 158 crore doses of vaccines have been provided as part of the statewide campaign.

8. A week after releasing a list of illnesses that do not require testing, the government announced Wednesday that testing numbers are down and that states must step up their efforts.

9. Over 17 lakh new cases have been reported in India in the last week, however the hospitalisation rate has been much lower than during the second wave, which brought the healthcare system to its knees.

10. With the third wave driving up daily case counts in major cities, governments have been obliged to reinstate restrictions on public movement that had been lifted following the second wave.
