INDIA: 3.37 LAKH NEW COVID CASES, 17.22% POSITIVITY RATE

Delhi: India's daily Covid curve showed a slight improvement today, with 3.37
lakh instances reported, down about 2.7 percent from yesterday. India is the
second-worst-affected country after the United States, with 3.89 crore cases.
Here
are the top 10 updates on coronavirus in India:
1. The active cases have increased to
21,13,365, the highest in 237 days. The active cases now comprise 5.43 per cent
of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has
decreased to 93.31 per cent. The daily positivity rate has dropped from 17.94%
to 17.22% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 16.65 per cent.
2. The overall count of the highly
infectious Omicron variant reached 10,050 today with 29 states reporting cases
of the new strain.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses delivered in the country has
surpassed 161 million. According to the government, 94 percent of adults in
India have got the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, with 72 percent having
received all three doses.

Individuals with lab-proven coronavirus infection will be postponed from
receiving Covid vaccination, including precaution doses, for three months
following recovery, according to the Centre's revised rules. The suggestion is
based on scientific facts and the National Technical Advisory Group on
Immunization's recommendation, according to the Centre.

In Maharashtra, one of the worst-affected states by the Covid pandemic, daily
Covid infections increased by 2,073 to 48,270 new cases on Friday. There were
144 Omicron infections in total. The infection also claimed the lives of 52
people.

On Friday, Delhi recorded 10,756 new Covid cases and 38 more deaths as a result
of the virus, with the positive rate dropping to 18.04 percent. So far in
January, 434 people have died as a result of the sickness.

In the south, Tamil Nadu has declared a state of emergency for this Sunday due
to an increase in Covid cases. Automobiles and cabs will be permitted to travel
to the airport, bus stations, and train stations. Tamil Nadu reported 28,561
new Covid cases on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections in the
state to 30,42,796.

the meantime, the weekend curfew in neighbouring Karnataka has been removed.
The nighttime limitations (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) will, however, remain in place to
combat the spread of coronavirus.

In the northeast, Mizoram recorded 1,199 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, up 215
from the previous day, and Arunachal Pradesh reported 449 new COVID-19 cases,
the greatest single-day increase in January.
According
to AFP, the coronavirus has killed at least 5,572,224 people since the outbreak
began in China in December 2019. With 860,248, the United States has the most
Covid deaths, followed by Brazil (622,205), India (488,884), and Russia (324,752).
