INDIA REGISTERS 317,532 NEW CORONA INFECTIONS, THE GREATEST NUMBER IN 249 DAYS; 491 DEATHS; ACTIVE CASES RISE TO 19,24,051
According
to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, India recorded
3,17,532 new Coronavirus infections, the most in 249 days, bringing the total
number of Covid-19 cases to 3,82,18,773, including 9,287 instances of the
Omicron variety. According to the Health Ministry, the number of active cases
has risen to 19,24,051, the most in 234 days, while the death toll has risen to
4,87,693 with 491 new fatalities. The active cases now make up 5.03 percent of
all infections, according to the report, while the national Covid-19 recovery
rate has dropped to 93.09 percent.
India
recorded 2,82,970 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, roughly 45,000 more than the
day before. Though some cities, including as Delhi and Mumbai, have seen a
decrease in new Coronavirus infections, some states, such as Kerala,
Maharashtra, and Gujarat, continue to report high numbers. Are we approaching
the pinnacle of the third wave? Manindra Agrawal, an IIT Kanpur scientist,
claims that the number of new Covid-19 cases in Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata has
peaked in the last seven days. According to him, Covid-19 instances would surge
this week in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana, and
next week in areas like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and Tamil Nadu. According to
Agrawal, the third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in India may peak on January
23, with daily cases likely to remain below 4 lakh.
According to a new study, Omicron infection may not result in broad immunity that protects against other variations in uninfected people. This paper emphasises the importance of immunisation in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic. Until January 18, India has provided about 158 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccinations (first, second, and precaution doses combined).
