FIRING CASE ACCUSED: "HURT BY ASADUDDIN OWAISI REMARK AGAINST 1 RELIGION"
New
Delhi, India: Two persons have been arrested after shots were fired at the
convoy of Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and chairman of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul
Muslimeen (AIMIM), while he was returning to Delhi from a campaign stop in
Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
During
questioning, they allegedly stated that Mr Owaisi's alleged "remarks
against one particular religion" had hurt them.
Mr.
Owaisi tweeted images of two bullet holes in his white SUV last night. The
third bullet is said to have struck a tyre. The MP stated that he was unharmed
and that he had left the area in another vehicle.
Sachin,
a Noida resident who was previously charged with attempted murder, is one of the
defendants. While he claims to have a legal degree, authorities are checking to
see if this is true. Sachin claims to be a member of a Hindu right-wing
organisation on his Facebook page, according to police, who are examining the
claim.
Shubham,
a farmer from Saharanpur with no criminal background, is the other defendant.
According
to police, the two told them during questioning that they were offended by Mr
Owaisi's and his brother, MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's remarks. "The defendants
claimed they were harmed by Asaduddin Owaisi's anti-religious statements.
They'll be brought in front of the judge "Prashant Kumar, the Additional
Director General of Police for Law and Order, told news agency ANI.
They
had lately purchased countrymade pistols, which were retrieved by police. The
folks from whom the rifles were purchased are now being sought by police.
The
accused will now be brought before a judge, and police will demand their
arrest.
After
the government reviewed the threat level in light of last night's attack, Mr
Owaisi was given Z category security cover by the Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF) today.
