IN INDIA, A TOTAL OF 54 CHINESE APPS HAVE BEEN BANNED, INCLUDING GARENA FREE FIRE- ILLUMINATE, TENCENT XRIVER, AND OTHERS

Due to a national "security danger," the Union government has decided to prohibit 54 China-specific apps in India. This is the sixth time the government has imposed a blanket ban on Chinese apps, the first being in June 2021, when TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, and 56 other Chinese apps were blacklisted. The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged a ban on 54 Chinese mobile applications that threaten the country's security, according to news agency PTI. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will issue a formal notification prohibiting certain apps from operating in India.

Apart from Garena Free Fire- Illuminate, the new list of banned applications is claimed to primarily include of clones of apps that have been banned in India since 2020. Some of the previously prohibited apps have discreetly rebranded and relaunched in India. With the addition of 54 more banned apps, the total number of apps blacklisted by the Indian government is estimated to be about 324.
