INDIA DISMISSES CHARGES OF HARASSMENT AGAINST JOURNALIST RANA AYYUB

India reacted angrily on Monday, calling the UN's claims of "judicial harassment" against journalist Rana Ayyub "baseless and unwarranted," and asserting that the government maintains the rule of law and that no one is above it.

In a tweet, India's permanent mission in Geneva stated that pushing a "misleading narrative" simply "tarnishes" the UN mission's credibility.

"Allegations of judicial harassment are unfounded and unjustified. India upholds the rule of law while also emphasising that no one is above the law. We anticipate SRs to be objective and well-informed. Promoting a false narrative just harms @UNGeneva's credibility "it said

The case would be followed up by a note verbale from the Indian embassy in Geneva, according to official sources in New Delhi.

"They'll also raise it with the UN's Geneva headquarters," a source said.

Earlier, the UN in Geneva tweeted about "relentless misogynistic and sectarian assaults online" against journalist Ayyub, urging Indian authorities to examine them quickly and completely and to put an end to the "judicial harassment against her."
