THE KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT IS EXPECTED TO ISSUE NEW GUIDELINES ON HIJAB IN SCHOOLS
Based
on the high court proposal barring religious garments in schools and colleges
while the matter is pending with the court, the Karnataka government is going
to create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on the use of hijab.
After
several kids arrived to class today wearing hijab against the court decision,
the administration is going to issue instructions for all schools and
universities.
School
officials stationed outside the school gate urged some pupils to remove their
headscarf. The government is going to issue a new set of recommendations to
avoid such scenarios.
Based
on the high court proposal, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will meet with
Education Minister BC Nagesh, education department officials, and home
department officials to decide on such guidelines.
The
new restrictions, according to reports, will allow pupils wearing hijabs and
burqas to enter schools and subsequently change into uniform rather than
forcing them to stand outside and remove their head scarves.
Colleges
in Karnataka can reopen, but students are not permitted to wear religious
attire while the case is pending, according to the Chief Justice of the
Karnataka High Court.
