TRAPPED ON A HILL FOR 2 DAYS, A KERALA TREKKER WAS RESCUED BY THE ARMY
R Babu, clothed in a T-shirt and shorts, was seen with jubilant army personnel after his rescue. Selfies were taken and the victory sign was flashed by some.
"Thank you very much, Indian Army," R Babu stated as he sat among army personnel. As a gesture of R, he kisses the army personnel. On Monday, Babu and two companions climbed Malampuzha's Cherad Hill. Babu continued climbing after his buddies gave up and made it to the top, but he slipped and became stranded between two boulders.
"Bangalore Parachute Regimental Centre teams were dispatched. At the Madras Regimental Centre in Wellington, we had a highly skilled high altitude warfare squad and a handful of Everest summiteers accessible at the same time, said Lt General A Arun, GoC, Dakshin Bharat Area, describing the rescue efforts.
The army general also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for coordinating with the Air Force and arranging for the team's airlift from Bengaluru.
The army squad walked all night and, as dawn broke, located the exact site with the use of drones and cameras on board, he claimed.
"Two Madra Regimental Team members rappled down a 250-foot distance till they reached Mr Babu, a young trekker, and in a great, brave decision-making activity, they elected to pull Mr Babu up instead of bringing him downhill. As a result, he was virtually carried upward by two members of the descend team "Lt Gen A Arun said.
The terrain was tough, hilly, and devoid of trees, according to the officer.
"A stone, boulder, or, in this example, a human being who falls from the cliff, has a good chance of making it down. Mr Babu should consider himself quite lucky for being able to get caught in that cleft "Lt Gen A Arun said.
Chief Minister Vijayan praised the rescuers and promised that the youth would be looked after until he recovered his health.
"The young man trapped in Malampuzha's Cherad hill has been freed, putting worries to rest. The treatment and attention that he requires to reclaim his health will be supplied right away. Thank you to the military who led the rescue effort and to everyone who helped out at the right time "Mr. Vijayan sent out a tweet.
