WHEN WILL THE NEXT COVID VERSION BE UNLEASHED ON THE WORLD? OMICRON MUTATIONS ARE ADDRESSED BY THE WHO.
A
top World Health Organization (WHO) official noted that COVID variations are
the "wild card," but that the next one will take some time to arrive.
Omicron is not the last type of concern, according to WHO's Maria Van Kerkhove,
who added that the UN health organisation is presently tracking four other
strains of the virus.
The following COVID
variation
"We
know a lot about the virus, but we don't know everything there is to know about
it. And, to be honest, the varieties are the unknown. As a result, we're
monitoring this virus in real time as it mutates and evolves... However, this
pathogen has plenty of room to spread "she stated
"Omicron
is the most recent kind of worry. It will not be the only instance of concern
addressed by WHO. The next one, you know, will hopefully arrive, but it will
take some time. However, given the severity of the dissemination, the
likelihood of further mutations is extremely high "she stated
"As
a result, we must ensure that we not only enhance vaccine coverage, but also
take measures to prevent the spread of the disease," she added.
Van
Kerkhove noted in a similar discussion last month that the next Covid variation
will undoubtedly be more contagious than omicron, but the key question is
whether it will be more lethal.
The subvariants of
Omicron
WHO
is currently monitoring four subvariants under the 'Omicron' umbrella: BA.1,
BA.1.1, BA.2, and BA.3.
"Because
BA.2 is more transmissible than BA.1, we expect to see greater detection of
BA.2 over the world," Van Kerkhove added.
The
Omicron form is becoming increasingly dominant, according to the UN health
agency's weekly epidemiological report, which was released on Tuesday. It now
accounts for about 97 percent of all cases.
"The
Omicron variant's prevalence has risen significantly, and it is currently found
in almost every country. However, since the beginning of January 2022, several
of the nations that reported an early increase in the number of cases
attributable to the Omicron variety have reported a decrease in the total
number of new cases "It was stated.
