INDIA'S REPRESENTATIVE IN RAMALLAH, MUKUL ARYA, HAS DIED
India's
Palestinian envoy Mukul Arya died on Sunday in Ramallah, according to S
Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister.
"Deeply
shocked to read of the passing of Shri Mukul Arya, India's Representative in
Ramallah," Jaishankar tweeted. "He was a bright and skilled officer
who had a lot on his plate. My heart breaks for his family and friends. He
said, "Om Shanti."
It
was unclear how he died right away.
Arya,
a career diplomat from the 2008 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, had worked
in the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi, as well as the Permanent
Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris and the Indian Embassies in Kabul and
Moscow, when he was in his mid-30s.
He
was born and reared in Delhi, and attended Delhi University and JNU to study
Economics before joining the Indian Foreign Service in 2008.
"We
received with great astonishment and shock the news of the death of the
Ambassador of the Republic of India to the State of Palestine, Mukul Arya, and
we express profound regret, loss, and pain at his demise," the Palestinian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants stated in a statement.
It
stated that they were in contact with the Indian Foreign Ministry to finalise
plans for sending the ambassador's mortal remains to his homeland.
President
Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh of Palestine instructed all
security, police, and public officials, as well as the Ministry of Health and
Forensic Medicine, to finish the formalities as soon as possible.
The
officials were told to go to the Indian ambassador's residence in Ramallah
right away. The statement noted that all parties are completely prepared to do
what is necessary of them in such tough and emergency circumstances to learn
more about the death.
"That
is frightening," tweeted Amar Sinha, a former Indian ambassador to
Afghanistan. He was in Kabul at the same time as me. My heartfelt condolences
to his family. Om Shanti," says the speaker.
