RUSSIA-UKRAINE CRISIS: PUTIN SAYS RUSSIA'S NEIGHBOURS SHOULD AVOID ESCALATING TENSIONS
Russia
Ukraine Crisis in Real Time: On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin
encouraged his neighbours not to exacerbate hostilities over the Ukraine
situation. "We have no ill feelings toward our neighbours."
Furthermore, I would advise them not to exacerbate the problem or impose any
limits. In televised remarks, Putin stated, "We fulfil all of our
responsibilities and will continue to do so." "We do not see any need
here to irritate or deteriorate our relations," Russian President Vladimir
Putin added. And all of our acts, if they occur, are always in response to hostile
activities, actions directed towards the Russian Federation."
According
to Ukrainian authorities, Russian soldiers seized Europe's largest nuclear
power facility after a building at the site was set ablaze amid severe battle
with Ukrainian defenders. Before authorities declared the fire in a building
designated as a training centre had been doused, fears of a probable nuclear
accident at the Zaporizhzhia plant had caused anxiety throughout the world.
There has been no discharge of radiation at the Ukrainian nuclear plant that
was targeted, according to the director of the UN's atomic watchdog.
Meanwhile,
fighting in southern Ukraine intensified, with Kherson becoming the first city
to fall into Russian hands, with bombardment in Mariupol, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv
continuing. On the edges of Mariupol, a vital port city on the Azov Sea, heavy
fighting is still going on. The Russian military claims possession of Kherson,
and local Ukrainian officials have verified that Russian forces have taken
control of the Black Sea port's local government buildings.
Both
sides have agreed to build corridors for civilians to safely evacuate conflict
zones, according to a member of Ukraine's delegation dispatched to negotiate
with Russians. According to Mykhailo Podolyak, a Zelenskyy adviser, the
corridors will feature cease-fires along the way.
