Much more deadly than Omicron is 'O Mitron': Shashi Tharoor is an Indian politician. On Monday, January 31, senior Congress politician Shashi Tharoor appeared to make a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's favourite word "Mitron," which he uses in his speeches to the nation. 'O Mitron,' he claims, is far more deadly than Omicron.

"'O Mitron' is far more deadly than #Omicron!" Increased polarisation, propagation of intolerance and bigotry, insidious assaults on the Constitution, and the erosion of our democracy are all results of the latter. "This virus has no "milder variant," he tweeted.

Shehzaad Poonawalla, a BJP spokesperson, claimed it was an attempt to lighten the terrible Covid situation in the country. "Rahul Gandhi keeps harping on Covid," he told India Today, "but Congress actually makes light of the severe matter."

Over the last several days, Shashi Tharoor has been making subtle digs at the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders. On January 29, the Thiruvananthpuram MP released a video of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, claiming that he had no idea how much damage he had caused the country. He had added, "This country has been transformed into a cemetery."
