TERRORISTS ATTACK CHECKPOINT IN BALOCHISTAN PROVINCE, KILLING 10 PAKISTANI SOLDIERS.
The
army claimed on Thursday that ten Pakistani troops were killed when terrorists
stormed a security checkpoint in the restive southern Balochistan province's
Kech area.
Terrorists
carried out a "fire raid" on the night of January 25-26, according to
the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
Ten
soldiers were killed in a fierce exchange of fire, according to the report,
which also stated that one terrorist was killed and several others were injured
in the event.
According
to the report, three terrorists were caught during the follow-up clearance
operation.
"Armed
forces are committed to removing terrorists from our soil at any cost,"
the statement continued.
So
far, there has been no claim of responsibility for the incident.
A
long-running violent insurgency exists in Balochistan, which borders Iran and
Afghanistan. Baloch militant groups have already carried out attacks in the
region aimed at the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
In
two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted by security forces
in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 5, two soldiers and as many militants were
killed.
According
to the Dawn newspaper, Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated the
Army's vow to fight terrorism until it is eradicated from the country.
General
Bajwa promised that the sacrifices made by those who were slain would not be in
vain, and that "total peace will return to Pakistan."
