COLLEGE ADMISSIONS WILL BE DRIVEN BY THE COMMON ENTRANCE TEST, NOT CLASS 12 GRADES
New
Delhi, India: From now on, college admissions will be based on a common
entrance exam rather than Class 12 grades. According to University Grants
Commission (UGC) chief Jagadesh Kumar, this will relieve the stress of absurdly
high college cut-offs by as much as 100 percent.
In this your 10-points:
1.
The new Common University Education Test (CUET) will be administered in the
first week of July, after the majority of Class 12 board exams have been
finished. The application procedure will begin in the first week of April and
will be conducted entirely online.
2.
According to the UGC chairwoman, the exam would be a computer-based,
multiple-choice test that will be simple in terms of technology.
3.
Inventive+ phrasing "Students do not need to be computer savvy to
participate. Almost every student nowadays has access to a smartphone. They can
go to the testing centre and select an answer from the multiple-choice
alternatives using the mouse "Mr Kumar stated.
4
"It is absurd to have a 100% cut-off for admission to numerous
undergraduate programmes at some of the best universities in the world. The
same exam will ensure that all students across the country are on an equal
footing "Mr Kumar went on to say that he thinks pupils would now be able
to concentrate more on learning rather than merely aiming to get the best
grades in their class 12 exams.
5.
All central universities must take the entrance exam, which will be
administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the top education agency
is requesting that all state, deemed-to-be, and private colleges use the test
scores for undergraduate admissions across the country.
6.
According to Mr Kumar, "one nation, one admission test" will be a
huge relief for students all around the country. "As a result, pupils will
not be required to take multiple types of entrance exams," he continued.
7.
Anyone who has completed their high school diploma is qualified to take the
common admission exam. "However, universities may use class 12 grades to
create admission requirements," the UGC chairwoman stated.
8.
As a result, while universities must admit undergraduate students based on the
common test, they are free to set a minimum standard for class 12 grades for
determining eligibility.
9.
According to Mr Kumar, the entrance exam's syllabus will be matched with the
NCERT's Class 12 model syllabus.
10.
According to Mr Kumar, the common test will have no impact on university
reservation policies. "On the basis of CUET scores, universities can enrol
candidates for public seats as well as reserved seats." "The existing
admittance and reservation policy will not be affected," he stated.
